Summary
The largest and most important administrative radio conference the world has ever known came to a successful conclusion, after working 11 weeks, when the final acts of the 1979 World Administrative Radio Conference of the International Telecommunications Union were signed on the 6th December. This conference was attended by nearly 2000 delegates from 142 countries and it had the formidable task of reconciling 15 000 published proposals. By a process of debate in meetings involving many hundreds of participants speaking in six languages, this unprecedented number of proposals, of which the UK submitted about 900, was reduced to an agreed volume of 1100 pages of radio regulations. These will come into force on the 1st January 1982 and will be annexed to the ITU Convention as part of that international treaty.
