The discussions that took place at the recent four-week World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC), run by the ITU, form the basis for global agreement on the allocation of radio frequencies and satellite orbits. Normally, there are at least a few heated exchanges, but this year's meeting was all calm consensus. The topics that grabbed the most attention were the global allocation of spectrum at 5GHz for wireless access systems, agreements on seamless mobile interoperability and global arrangements for disaster relief.
