Summary
Events such as the 1992 World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC-92) have different impacts on satellite deployment and use, depending on the region. Also, fundamental factors such as spectrum allocations, technological innovations, climate, geography, financial resources, and market demand keep the bandwith equation in a state of constant flux. Satcom professionals have difficulty developing international business plans. The strategic impact of WARC-92 on satellite communications is evaluated, giving attention to how government, telecommunications companies, and users can cope with region-specific factors. Those factors affecting differences in satellite availability and applications include politics, regulation, and spectrum use and management. Satellite communications remains an essential and compelling industry. However, strategic planning will become even more critical to improving the odds for individual carrier success and satisfaction.
