[Publisher description] This publication provides extracts from statements by Heads of State and Government at the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) that took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 10-12 December 2003. It is intended as a historical resource and as a vehicle to carry the messages of world leaders to a wider public. The extracts are taken from texts submitted to the WSIS Executive Secretariat or from audio recordings made at the event. For reasons of space and equal treatment, all extracts have been kept to two pages for each leader.
